Frontier Danceland

Founded in 1991 by Low Mei Yoke and Tan Chong Poh, Frontier Danceland is a non-profit, contemporary dance repertory company in Singapore that transitioned to a full-time, professional company in 2011. The company has worked with both local and international dance-makers from various backgrounds, including Noa Zuk, Ohad Fishof and Shahar Binyamini from Israel, Richard Chappell and Deborah Nightingale from The United Kingdom, Stephanie Lake, Gabrielle Nankivell and Luke Smiles from Australia, Sita Ostheimer from Germany, Olé Khamchanla, Annie Vigier, Franck Apertet, Thomas Lebrun and Edouard Hue from France, Sascia Pellegrini and Marioenrico D’Angelo from Italy, Liu Yen-Cheng and I-Fen Tung from Taiwan, Victor Choi from Hong Kong and Matej Kejzar from Belgium/Slovenia.

Throughout the years, Frontier Danceland has also represented Singapore internationally, including three sold-out shows at Batsheva Dance Company in Israel in May 2016. The company has been invited to perform at Taiwan’s Kuandu Arts Festival and the 25th Quinzena De Dançe De Almada – International Dance Festival, Portugal in October 2017; showcased at Festival Tour d'Horizonsin France in June 2018 and Dance in the City festival in Belgium/Germany in August/September 2018 – and again in 2019, all of which were well received.

Our vision is to be a versatile contemporary dance company in Singapore, committed to inspiring our audiences with a dynamic range of contemporary dance works thereby contributing to a greater appreciation of the art form. This is achieved by creating opportunities for Singaporean and international dance artists to create and present diverse, experimental and accessible dance works.

Frontier Danceland is a non-profit contemporary dance company that combines dynamic Western dance technique with the strength and beauty of Asian expression. Inspired by the energy and vibrance of contemporary life in Singapore, the Company challenges itself to create and perform innovative and evocative works that push beyond choreographic and performance boundaries.

Founded in July 1991 by present artistic director, Low Mei Yoke and Tan Chong Poh as an amateur dance company, Frontier Danceland gained professional status in 2011.
